FIRE-Network: Research Partnership with Industries and other Stakeholders

Prof Dr Hulda Swai, Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST), Tanzania is a renowned Nanotechnology Scientist, a Biomedical researcher with 27 years of experience in drug development and drug delivery systems and over the years has focused on Poverty Related Diseases (PRDs) like HIV, Tuberculosis and Malaria. She is also a founding member of FIRE – the Female International Researcher network between DHBW and its Sub-Saharan partner universities. Dr Ivy Mathews is Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academics & Quality) at Botho University (Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia ,eSwatini & Distance Learning) and also an active member in FIRE. Both colleagues and Prof Sabine Moebs are invited as panel members at Baden-Württemberg Stiftung’s event at the conference “Afrika-Europa: Reziproke Perspektiven”, organized by the Africa Centre for Transregional Research (ACT) at Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg.

In this talk Prof Swai and Dr Mathews will present their respective approach to demand-driven research, partnership with industries and other relevant stakeholders. They will share their experience with universities in public-private partnerships and present their perspective on state-of-the-art infrastructure to enable universities to do R&D for industries.
