DIY Vertical Garden Workshop with Inselgrün Stuttgart (Benoit Leleu)
In this workshop we will learn how to use space and resources efficiently to create a vertical garden, which will provide you with fresh home-grown herbs! The teacher, Benoit Leleu, is the gardener at Stuttgart’s urban garden “Inselgrün” and has been gardening his whole life. His second job is a composition supervisor for cartoons and animation, which means he is experienced in design as well. Benoit will be guiding us through the assembling process of the vertical garden, all you need to do in advance is get the following materials and sign up for the workshop if you can.
To build your own vertical garden (small version) you need:
- 8 plastic bottles, ideally of the same size
- scissors/cutter to cut the bottles
- 1 wooden board
- 2 wooden strips/rails (around 85 cm long)
- 1 wooden strips (around 30 cm long)
- 8 screws and a screw driver/drill machine or 8 nails and a hammer
- some stones
- potting soil
- some herbs or seeds to plant in it
If you do not have access to all of the material you could join the workshop anyways and we can figure out how to make it work. Check out the pdf for the detailed instructions of one smaller and a larger balcony version, but don’t worry, you will not require all the material mentioned there (Google Drive).
Here you can see what the finished garden (large version) could look like: Instagram
